Status Battle:
in virtual space- Anyone who is joined in ACCD community on Facebook can be the victim!
in real space- Anyone who is in the cafeteria on the hillside campus cna join!
Outline
Our goal was to create a real space that offers a same experiece that we have in virtual space, such as the Facebook homepage where posting and seeing status happens. Most of people use facebook in their daily routine of life and it is like a habit to be just online Facebook and see how other people are doing. In a passive way, people get to be updated by knowing what is going on through friends' status uploaded. We as a group of Yuin, Hoon, Brooke, and myself decided hack ACCD network on Facebook to steal and display new status lively uploaded to the wall in the cafeteria on the campus. The status is shown one by one in the time order and given 15 seconds to be displayed. If students in the cafeteria like the status on the wall, they can vote wheather they like it or not, or just ignore. There are three different buttons to push; LOL(funny=like it),ZZZ(boring), and TMI(too much information). The voting game works by this rule; LOL gets 2 points, ZZZ looses 2 points, and TMI looses 1 point. The status that gets the most points will be ranked on the upper right hand corner and could replace or be replaced by other status.
Result:
People might be curious and read the status on the wall passively, but they didn't seem to want to physically join in the activity like the way people usually interact on Facebook homepage.(mostly just briefly scan though)
- First people seemed to be distracted by the sounds that the buttons made before they got to figure out the whole concept of the event, so they just liked to keep pushing the buttons.
- When it involves rare kind of technical amazingness such as pushing a button generates somthing on the wall, people first tend to focus on its funness and be naturally engaged.
- After they were informed about the project, people started to carfully read the status and think if they like it.
- Overall, the idea of bringing the experince on Facebook to the real world was intriguing and successful, but unfortunately, the concept didn't seem to be delivered clearly at the first read.
