DESIGN DIALOGUES 6 - ALEX ROSE

LAYERS OF NOW

Instructor: Anne Burdick/ Ben Hooker

Alex Rose, who is a member of THE LONG TERM NOW FOUNDATION, was our last guest speaker of Design Dialogue series. What they aim to do in the organization is looking up further, thinking about future, and design something inventional that will last very long period of time so that the future people will take its ownership. The most interesting principle is how they percieve and determine time in their invention. They elongate the moment of "now"  in thier actual production as well as in their concepts throughout. Every second, time goes by and the now you've been just in now becomes your past. How sensitively am I aware of the moment of being now?

To me, time is layer. Time flow equals layering. Same thing happens in my art making process. Time creates more layers of color, density in painting. I try to draw out the point from two different places, one from my daily ritual life, and the other from my usual picture making process.

Layers of now- representation of how my life has been built by layers of 25 years so far
